You do not know me for we have never met.
We went to the same school,
although you were junior to me.
We are children of the same alma-mater.
You will be ‘Dada’ to everyone, I always have looked on you as my ‘bhaiya’.

We must have joined voices to sing our school anthem, “Nihil Ultra – nothing beyondâ?.
You, throughout your career have proved beyond doubt what we did learn.
To a true Xaverian, nothing is ever beyond.

I have followed your cricket ever since your debut century at Lordsâ?(tm).
That day I was so proud of you.

With you, I have ridden the roller coaster that has been your career.
Through your dark days, when you had been stripped of your captaincy,
rudely brushed aside, stabbed in the back, ridiculed and rejected.
Not once did you lose your dignity and composure.
Neither did you point fingers or blamed anyone

I never lost faith in you, in your grit and determination.
And prayed that you got just one more chance, to redeem yourself.

Fate, brought you that chance. You took it with both hands.
If there were any demons in your mind, you smashed them in your own flamboyant style
far, far beyond the boundary ropes.
You have silenced each and every one of your critics.
Those who had shut the door on you,
in your own way you had shown the world what they really are.

Nobody can ever take away the goodwill and affection
that your supporters will always have for you.

Saurav Ganguly

Saurav bhaiya,
all things must pass,
you too have decided to say goodbye – I, as always, will wish you the very best

As an Indian, Ganguly was one of those people who I knew about through grandparents etc before I was really old enough to process why he was famous and what he did.

He was responsible for some of the greatest moments in Indian cricket such as the test series win against Australia. His partnership with Sachin in ODIs was exceptional and we are unlikely to see anything like it for a while.

I was incredibly surprised by his comeback and even more surprised that it seemed to be working for him. Nothing else to say other than hope he got everything he wanted from the game because he gave an awful lot to it – being swarmed and getting death threats shouldn’t be part of sport but he put up with it all.

    Thanks Dreamdancer,

He is probably the only player I know who has polarised cricket fans the world over. Some swear by him – other will swear at his name.

I got into forums and blogs to fight his cause – when abusing him was fashionable – cut my teeth at the lions den – ihateganguly.com

Indian cricket will not be the same for me.

When i got to know about his retirement, i was very very deeply disappointed.

I was very much disappointed. More than disappointment, i was frustrated to the core.
    Why ?

Because, Sourav did not quit cricket, just because he is 36 years old or for any other reason.
But, due to sheer humiliation from the selection committee, he had to quit.

I just cannot understand one thing.
When Sourav Ganguly does not perform well, he will be immediately dropped from the team.

But on the contrary, when other players does not perform well, why are they still in the team ?

If i am not wrong, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the only cricketer who has been performing consistently from the past 1 year or so.

Apart from him, nobody else has performed.
    But still, DADA is targeted.

He was not picked for the Irani Trophy.
Why ? Just because he did not perform well in 1 single series against SriLanka?
To say honestly, no other player had performed well in that series.

Then, why is sourav ganguly dropped ?
    I ll tell you guys.
Sourav was not dropped based on his performance.

He was dropped, for reasons “other than cricket”.

Whatever it is, if you look at his statistics as a player, do you think he should be dropped ?

Isn’t there any respect for a senior player ?
He has done so much for the team, which has made the whole of India swell with pride.

But, the people in selection committee, does whatever they feel.

    Injustice is ruling the world.
And great players like DADA are paying the price for that.

But, certainly, i feel DADA should not have announced his retirement.
We need his service for the team.

There is still so much to say about DADA, but i am so disappointed, that i am not even able to type. So, I would like to say 1 last thing finally– WE WILL NEVER EVER GET A PLAYER LIKE SOURAV GANGULY AGAIN IN THE HISTORY OF CRICKET. NEITHER WAS A PLAYER LIKE HIM, NOR WILL BE A PLAYER LIKE DADA. IF THERE IS ANY TRUE CRICKETER IN THIS WORLD WITH THE REAL GUTS AND ATTITUDE, THEN IT IS ONE AND ONLY ” SOURAV GANGULY”, “PRINCE OF KOLKATA”, “BENGAL TIGER”, “DADA” and nobody else.

I wish all the Good Luck to DADA in his future life.
    WE MISS YOU DADA…………

DADA retirement is a bad day for indian cricket. Instead of scoring runs DADA created fighting against victory upto last over for Indian players . Boosting youngsters and find the talents is the very special of DADA..we missing to see the specialist sixer here afterwards.REALLY I NOT ABLE TO SAYS DADA RETIREMENT
