lesson 2: admit mistakes

Sri Lanka beat India by a 100 runs.
So?

Sanath Jayasuriya scored a 125 off 114 with 9×4 and 5×6 and a strikerate of 109.65.
So what’s new?

Ajantha Mendis – returned with figures of O8 M1 R13 W6 Nb0 W0 and ER1.6
playing his first major tournament and that too in the finals.
That he was adjudged Man of the Match comes as no surprise.

It is reported that the Indian Captain made this comment after the match:

Outfoxed once, but we’ll sort out Mendis in Test series: Dhoni

The Times Of India Cricket
KARACHI: Sri Lankan spin sensation Ajantha Mendis may have wrecked havoc in the Asia Cup final but Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni refuses to consider him a major threat in the upcoming Test series, saying the experienced players in the Indian Test line-up will sort him out.

That is a bit of a ‘my daddy will sort you out’ psychology.

Dhoni for successive series has insisted on a young team.
Sri Lanka on the other hand showed the right combination of youth and experience.
Youth can flourish within the reassurance experience brings to the team – throw them in at the deep end, and you will have wickets tumbling. 9 wickets for 97 to be exact.

Ajantha Mendis

Ajantha Mendis is the youth of international cricket today. They do not come any ‘fresher’. That Dhoni’s cronies crumbled in front of him was embarrassing enough. Now having Dhoni flexing his muscles over the shoulders of the experienced Indian players, makes me cringe.
