A blog by Â(c)hinaman
the little known side
There is always another side,
so is true with cricketers, I realised while reading about Mr Shane Warne.
For away from the swashbuckling performances,
the eyespopping sixes,
and toe crushing yorkers
the impressive strike rates and averages
from the rantings, and sledging
and faceslapping
some of our cricketers have quietly gone on,
to give their time and or money for good causes …
even walked across the Alps with reluctant elephants.
(I do not think the elephants were as committed.)
The more I read, the more names I find.
The more I am touched.
It is a shame,
that this often gets obscured by other news,
of how much they rake in,
sadly true in many instances.

I am trying to compile a simple list of cricketer’ charities
for we should also know about crickets’ giving side -
http://www.thesillypoint.com/charities.html
I know my list is incomplete,
it is difficult to find information on the net, weblinks that do work.
So if you are reading this,
and know of similar acts of generosity,
I’ll be very grateful if you could please leave me details / weblinks.

alot of players at county level do alot of extra work going to local schools and training the kids
You are still missing many names in that list though i do not know any more names other then your list.
People who really did anything, are unknown to all and will be.
thanks Hitesh,
you are right, there must be many missing,
i am still trying to find them – that list can never be called complete.
But that is the strange thing, we learn about who was out dancing with whom, but never what they have done for others.
I would never have known about Shane Warne’s charity, unless I had researched. Everyone knows of his poker credentials, but not his charity.
The purpose of the page is to act as a link for the casual visitors.
