BCCI function to mark silver jubilee of World Cup win
Cricinfo staff: May 31, 2008The BCCI will hold a felicitation function in New Delhi to mark the silver jubilee of India’s triumph in the 1983 World Cup.
“The felicitation function for the members of the 1983 World Cup winning team will be held at Taj Palace in New Delhi on June 22,” Pawar said.
1983
is way back in time…
the year
Bjorn Borg retired from tennis
a bomb exploded in the Beirut US Embassy
Microsoft Word and Lotus 1-2-3 were released.
The first Swatch watches and Nintendo hit the shops windows,
McDonald gave us the McNuggets and

Michael Jackson showed us how to ‘moonwalk’.
Since 1983
six world cups have been played since.
India have played and lost in all of them, two of them on home turf.
This is no celebration,
this is a painful reminder of our persistent failure for 25 years.
We have been perfecting the moonwalk since then.
