Selectors Pressurised By Captain Rahul Dravid To Retain Beleagured Virender Sehwag — Dravid Not Comfortable With “Seniorsâ€
Submitted by Sudhakar Shanbhag on Fri, 2007-04-20 15:43.
The BCCI selectors reportedly informed Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly that they would be “rested†for the ODI series in Bangladesh before the selection meeting took place in Mumbai on Friday. It is also learnt that skipper Rahul Dravid was not “comfortable†with the seniors being chosen in the ODI team and hence the likes of Tendulkar and Ganguly were â??restedâ?.
That apart, out-of-form, Virender Sehwag was retained in the one-day squad on captain Rahul Dravidâ?(tm)s insistence. The whole selection panel was in favour of dropping Virender Sehwag for the Bangladesh tour and was retained in the ODI team only on the insistence of Dravid, a selector informed. Captainâ?(tm)s pressure compelled the selectors to include Sehwag, despite his poor run of form. The selection panel agreed to retain him for the one-day team only on one reason — he scored a century against Bermuda in the World Cup.
After Chappell and Dravid combination
had convincingly destroyed their team of “young legs”,
Ganguly had to be sent out to South Africa to hide their blushes.
After a sequence of successful innings and a Man of the Series,
he had to be “rested”.
He has played on 10 ODIs since his return.
Following our early dismissal from WCC, scapegoats had to be found.
Chappell had leaked messages out about senior players acting like ‘mafias’.
Seven senior players resented that underhand allegations and challanged him.
For the first time in his seventeen year career, Tendulkar spoke out in reply.
And agreed to represent these players in their meeting with BCCI.
Instead of facing the players allegations, Chappell resigned.
We will not know what the players would have said.
That meeting never took place.
Rahul Dravid, the so called ‘gentleman’ in the team
gave his silent support to the cowardly act of Greg Chappell.
Instead of standing up for his team mates,
he chose to stand by a failed coach
for the sole reason, without Greg, he is finished.
Oh, extremely nifty is our Dravid with a knife from the back.
Why wouldn’t he want Tendulkar or Ganguly in the team.
Not only are they better ODI batsmen than him,
not only do they both have dual attributes as bowlers
they are the likely immediate replacement as captain.
It must be sheer desperation that he wants Sehwag.
To block an opening position, favoured by both these players.
Rahul Dravid’s days are numbered.
His mentor Greg has deserted him,
its time for him to go too.
Hasn’t he damaged our team enough?
Time for him to take a leaf out of his Guruâ?(tm)s book and resign.

Thing is, Dravid is going to be captain till the end of the England tour. So, unless his results are not up to BCCI expectations, there is no possibility of him being pushed before that.
And if the results are up to BCCI expectations, he will be retained skipper for a further period, much to the detriment of Indian cricket.
I am sad to admit, it is true.
When senior players are unhappy with him,
and justifiably,
it is amazing that BCCI would still want to go with him.
I do not think there is anyone in the BCCI
who understands player psychology.
They have killed of team spirit.
On second thoughts, that might be intentional.
They just want slaves don’t they?
No unity amongst players,
no mutiny or rebellions,
just play when ordered.
I’m genuinely surprised by how strong opinion is against the guy. And I really want to launch a defence.
But this post seems more like letting off steam and putting up conspiracy theories than anything which I can argue.
Tell me where to start and lets have a discussion, Cos I am really keen. Either that or I’ll plonk a big post on Captain Courageous on my site
!
SFx,
feel free to write
anything you wish in Dravid’s defense.
You have every right to express your opinion.
So do I.
I read,
I think
I corelate evidence
and I express my opinion.
But its unfair to stamp
other’s opinion as just “letting of steam”.
I am not letting of steam.
I am trying to get a meaning out of a strange selection.
Just a conspiracy theory?
It would be naive to believe
Dravid is incapable of conspiracies and politics.
Opinion was stronger against Ganguly.
Websites had been launch to express ‘hatred’.
A discussion will be easier on the forum.
Where everyone can join in and share their views.
Hey …
I didnt mean it the way you seem to have taken it at all.
All i meant was, this post doesnt make a specific case. What part of DRavid’s performance are we talking about ? The fact that he dropped Ganguly ? thats not correct. Or its as crrect as the factthat he reinstated him. Is he a good captain ? I think ganguly was beter than dravid is now.
Is Dravid sinister ? I dont think so. Why are you saying that ?
All I’m asking for is perspectives to have discussions about ..
A captain who has lost the trust and confidence of his players, cannot continue as a captain anymore.
The issue here is why is he not “comfortable” with seniors.
Is it more than a coincidence that
his discomfort leads to two players being rested,
either of who should have been given the captaincy.
This topic is up for discussion in the forum.
It will be easier to explore the issues there.
Hiya Chinaman … Hope you’re well …
Long winding ode to my hero Mr Dravid on the site for you perusal at your leisure, sir. And for your comments as and when.
A few too long to put into a forum comment unfortunately so due apologies for that.
Regards and the best
as always
